EdinsonCavanihad been in a battle with Everton centre back Yerry Mina since the start of the game and he took it up a notch by grabbing the throat of the player in an incident that could have led to his dismissal. Cavanigrabbed Yerry Mina by the throat before pushing him down. Centre referee Andrew Madley missed the incident and with VAR absent from the Carabao Cup quarterfinal ties this season, EdinsonCavaniescaped punishment. He would go on to score one of the goals that took Manchester United into the final four of the Carabao Cup.
Ex-Napoli and PSG attacker Cavani scored the opening goal of the game with two minutes left to play before fellow forward Anthony Martial sealed the 2-0 away win over the Toffees with his goal in added time.
