Sao Paulo player Igor Gomes is one of the most exciting young players in Brazil and he has been linked with a move to West Ham United as a potential replacement for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard.

England international Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United from Manchester United and he was one of the best players in the Premier League during that period. The Hammers wanted to sign Lingard permanently this summer but it looks like the Englishman wants to stay at Old Trafford to fight for his place in the first team squad under the watchful eyes of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Lingard has a lot of opposition to contend with in the attacking positions at Manchester United including new signing Jadon Sancho, a £73m purchase from Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.

Manchester United Academy graduate Lingard as been one of the best players for the Red Devils in preseason and he would be hoping to get his chance when the club begins the new Premier League campaign with an home clash with Leeds United next week Saturday.

For West Ham United, they are trying to move on without Lingard by making a move for Brazilian player Gomes as revealed by media outlet Homme du Match. It was stated that the Hammers could spend up to £12.5m on the transfer.

Gomes, 22, has a eight goals and nine assists in 114 games for Sao Paulo.

West Ham boss David Moyes needs a big squad this season with the club also in the Europa League and it remains to be seen if the club can back him with a transfer for the abovementioned Gomes.
