GIGGS LEFT UNIMPRESSED

Ryan Giggs, one of the legends to have donned the jersey of Manchester United, was not amused by the fact that the club youngster Marcus Rashford had a cap on when he came out to address the reporters at the conclusion of the Manchester derby last night.

“I don’t know why he is wearing that cap, but that might be just me – old school, not like the modern Footballer now.” Giggs was quoted saying by METRO.

Former Manchester United ace believes Romelu Lukaku was missed against Wolves

Former Manchester United graduate Sylvan Ebanks-Blake believes the Red Devils missed the services of Romelu Lukaku during the club’s 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup quarter-final. The Red Devils had gone into the game following their first league loss of the turn of the year against Arsenal but their fortunes did not change with Wolves putting up a stellar counterattacking performance to outwit their backline.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Ebanks-Blake highlighted that Lukaku was missed in the United frontline, given his form showcased over the past month under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He added that the Belgian has the additional trait of contributing towards his teammates’ goals which could have likewise proved useful against a physically-built Wolves backline.

David de Gea speaks on Manchester United’s improved defensive showing

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has spoken about the improvement showcased in the defensive front since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as the caretaker boss. The Red Devils have conceded just five times in the eight matches under Ole and this remains a drastic improvement on the 13 allowed from the preceding eight.

Speaking on MUTV, the Spain international was pleased with the progress made in the backline, which had been the prime area of concern under ex-boss Jose Mourinho. He added that the improvement at the back has directly contributed to the effectiveness in the frontline and hopefully the club can stretch the current winning run.

Jesse Lingard hails Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s impact at Manchester United

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has hailed the impact made by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since he took over the managerial reigns at the club. The Red Devils had struggled to secure regular wins under the guidance of ex-boss Jose Mourinho earlier in the campaign but the arrival of Solskjaer has changed their fortunes with eight straight wins in all competitions.

Speaking to Soccer AM, Lingard praised the manager’s impact over the past month with the club and suggested that the Norwegian has offered the players with more freedom to express themselves, he said: “Ole has been great since he came in. He has given a lot of advice, and he has let us play free, which is the main thing.

Mourinho backs Dalot for a long United career

Jose Mourinho thinks that the teen-aged defender Diogo Dalot, who is also his compatriot, has a bright career ahead of him and he can go on to serve the Red Devils for a long period of time. Dalot was bought by United during the pre-season transfer window and he probably would have made his debut in the Premiership much before, but because of an injury he sustained, his debut was delayed and he finally got the first look-in versus Southampton FC.

Mourinho seemed very impressed with the kind of skills and temperament the young man has displayed in his first few fixtures, but the manager has also urged the fans and the media not to expect him to deliver the goods every game because he doesn’t have a lot of experience to show a very high level of consistency. He is new, not only to the Premiership but to the senior level Football altogether.

Micky Hazard urges Toby Alderweireld to resist Manchester United move

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Micky Hazard believes Toby Alderweireld should decline the prospect of joining Manchester United, given the contrasting fortunes of both sides this term. The north London club are currently experiencing their best-ever season in the Premier League era while United are enduring the complete opposite with their worst beginning to a campaign.

Speaking to Express Sport, Hazard hailed the qualities of Alderweireld, who has become a key player for the Capital outfit and stated that he would be a fool to make the move to Old Trafford in the near future, he said: “I think Toby’s a brilliant player and he loves Tottenham. If he were to leave Tottenham and join Manchester United with the way the two sides are playing at the moment, at this moment in time – and how they have been for the last few years – then he’d be a fool.”

Manchester United manager praises Scott McTominay after West Ham United defeat

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has praised the efforts of young graduate Scott McTominay following the club’s 3-1 Premier League defeat at the hands of West Ham United. The Scotland international was handed a surprise start for the Red Devils in the central defensive role over the weekend and though, his performance was pretty average, Mourinho was pleased with his contribution.

Speaking after the Hammers game, the Portuguese tactician heaped praised on McTominay and indicated that he was the best defender on the field, he said: “He was the best. He had a fantastic attitude. Aggressive, brave… and he had something that we thought was important which is quality on the ball. He knows how to play football. He brings the ball into offensive areas… really happy with the job the kid did.”

Ander Herrera hints at new Manchester United contract

Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera has hinted that he could sign a new Manchester United contract. The 29-year-old has been with the Red Devils since the summer of 2014 and though he has not been a regular starter, he has managed to rack over 160 appearances for the Mancunian giants across all competitions.

Speaking to MUTV, the Spaniard indicated that he is ‘very proud’ to don the United jersey and he fancies reaching the 200-appearance mark and going further forward in the coming years, he said: “First of all, it makes me feel very proud, because when you play for Manchester United, you have to deserve, every season, to keep playing for the club.

CAN MAN UNITED CLOSE IN ON MAN CITY?

Manchester United are keen on bridging the gap with their more balanced city rivals this summer. Coach Jose Mourinho has been constantly criticized for his defensive tactics and safe way of play that does not even get the results a lot of time.

A lot more United fans want the club to play attacking football, as it was in the past but the Portuguese tactician prefers control in a game that cavalier football. The team play convincingly early on in the season, the prospects were good. However towards the season, the number of goalscorers available to the team had really dwindled. RomeluLukaku’s conversation rate started dwindling while Zlatan Ibrahimovic was obviously on his way out. The style of play and locker room issues started affecting the team balance as well.

Watford Sack Marco Silva

Premier League side Watford has fired its manager Marco Silva. The club felt the manager’s focus had shifted so they took the step to hopefully cut short the run of poor results. Watford are unhappy that Silva was open to an earlier move to Everton when an opportunity presented itself.

The Hornets were once in the top four after being the sixth side on the list of summer spenders in the league. They are now in the 10th place but there are concerns that they would plunge further. They are five points ahead of the red zone but the board felt the results were tied to Silva’s loss of focus. The last straw was the 2-0 loss to Leicester City on Saturday.
